Intermodalics will show it's 3D localisation and gripping applications at the Automatica trade fair in Munich, from May 22-25 at the EUnited booth nbr 528 in Hall B3.

We will show a non-stop running demo of a fenceless, safe robot locating and manipulating various cardboard boxes in a very limited space. Visitors are invited to put down boxes, grab them from the robot or obstruct the robot. This allows you to observe the safety mechanisms demonstrated and the robustness of the application as the robot continues once the environment is safe again.

Additionally, our crew can show you movies and other material of new fenceless automation systems. These systems allow you to automate goods handling in a very limited space and with minimal adoptions to your current infrastructure, effectively allowing personnel to move around the workspace.

ITER Remote HandlingITER Remote Handling
Intermodalics has been awarded, together with remote handling specialist Oxford Technologies (UK), a contract to build the first Remote Handling simulator for the ITER Fusion Reactor.

ITER requires very reliable and robust remote handling techniques to manipulate and exchange components weighing up to 50 tons. The reliability of these techniques will also impact the length of the machine's shut-down phases.

Intermodalics know-how in robotics middlewares, communication protocols and controller frameworks will help to select, design and build the necessary parts for a demonstrator system. This system simulates various robotized tasks around the reactor and serves to evaluate the selected technologies and make them available to the actual system builders.

For the EU funded ECHORD project, Intermodalics and its partner KU Leuven completed a first milestone in fully automatic bin-picking of cardboard boxes of various weights.

The robot in the movie is the KUKA Light Weight Robot (LWR), weighing 15kg and capable of lifting 7.5kg at tooltip. The position and force control of this robot is completely done by the Intermodalics Industrial Controller (IIC).The IIC is robot-independent and can be used to interface other industrial robots and sensors as well.

This movie is a work-in-progress demo and not an endpoint in the development of this application. Engineers at Intermodalics are confident to extend it to a multi-robot, palletizing application by the first quarter of 2012.
